Chappie still

First came the poster, and as inevitably as night follows day here comes the trailer for Neill Blomkamp's Chappie (which sounds a bit rude when phrased that way). Prepare yourselves for the most instantly sympathetic robot since Wall-E, and scenes of robot trauma that may upset younger viewers, or really anyone who loves their smartphone and feels good about their microwave.

Chappie sees Dev Patel create a thinking, feeling robot. But even as he and his friends try to teach this newcomer how to act in the world, the rather innocent young being comes under threat from dark forces - led here by Hugh Jackman's Vincent. You can tell he's dodgy because he has hair that's perilously close to being a mullet. Just like you can tell Chappie's rather likeable because he has sort of rabbit ears.

The film also stars Blomkamp regular Sharlto Copley as Chappie himself, and Sigourney Weaver, who doesn't appear in this trailer. Chappie will hit the UK on March 6, 2015.
