Matt Damon was rumoured for a long time and half the big young names in Hollywood have been mentioned, but now there's a lot of web buzz saying that little-known Mike Vogel has landed the role of Captain James Tiberius Kirk in JJ Abrams Star Trek.
Who Mike Vogel, you ask? You might remember him hanging from a hook in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre or possibly as Emmy Rossum's boyfriend in Poseidon. But his biggest project – aside from the possibility of Trek – is another JJ Abrams movie, 1-18-08, or Cloverfield, or Monstrous, or whatever the hell we're calling it this week. Nobody knows who he's playing, because nobody, apart from those directly involved in the film, actually know for sure what the movie's about. But the kid could be already on for big things, so he may not be so unknown when Star Trek comes out next Christmas.
Vogel's involvement in Star Trek hasn't been confirmed, but many of the recent rumours about the movie have turned out to be true, e.g. Zachary Quinto playing Spock. So how would you feel about young Mr Vogel taking the captaincy of the Starship Enterprise?
