Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby is a rule-breaker. Normally, opening films for the Cannes Film Festival aren't allowed to hit other cinemas in advance of the Palais' pomp and circumstance, but Great Gatsby is different - and more than made up for the technical naughtiness with one hell of a red carpet parade. Ignoring the drizzly rain, Carey Mulligan, Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire and co. used their star wattage to light up the Croisette's red carpet like a thousand fireworks going off. Handily, once they'd entered the Palais, what looked like several thousand fireworks did go off, making the by-then torrential downpour much more sufferable.

Empire's review of the film can be read here, and for a audio / visual taste of what to expect from the fourth cinematic Gatsby, cast your Eckleburgs in the direction of the trailer below.
