Brighton Rock Trailer Online

Following last week's poster, here's a trailer for the new Brighton Rock, finally giving us a glimpse of Sam Riley as razor-wielding bad boy Pinkie Brown, and his angle for challenging Richard Attenborough's iconic 1947 stab at the role.

Riley previously promised us "more of Graham Greene's violence, more religious confusion, and more prominent sexual anxiety" than previously: remember that this is a new adaptation of Greene's 1938 novel rather than a remake per se. Judging by what's on display here, he speaks the truth, with Greene's core of Catholic guilt and suffering being thoroughly mined. We'd slightly question the trailer's focus on the actually very un-lovely love story though, which seems to promise a Wuthering Heights vibe we're sure won't actually be there.

Riley is backed up by a Great British Cast including Helen Mirren, John Hurt and Andy Serkis. There's also a glimpse of Sean Harris in the clip, giving us two Ian Curtises for the price of one.

Rowan Joffe has adapted and directed Brighton Rock, updating it to the 60s of the mods and rockers in the process. It's out on February 4.
