Blaxploitation spoof sold at Sundance

Bucking this year's Sundance trend of big studios with teeny wallets, Sony have picked up comedy Black Dynamite for $2m, two days after snapping up Brooklyn's Finest.

Riffing off '70s Blaxploitation thrillers, Black Dynamite ("60,000 volts of black power") stars Michael Jai White as a ghetto hero going toe-to-toe with 'The Man' who is pumping heroin into local orphanages.

White is a martial artist best known for getting seriously Eastern on Steven Seagal in Exit Wounds and van Damme in Universal Soldier: The Return, so expect nunchucking, badass kung-fu action to go with all the 'fro's and slap-bass.

Sony has franchise in mind, and judging by the trailer - 2 parts awesome to 1 part deeply silly - they could be onto a winner.
