Black Christmas Offends US Christians

Yup, it’s been a slow weekend for news, folks. So slow, in fact, that we’re resorting to telling you that Christian organisations in the US are upset about pants horror remake Black Christmas getting a December 25th release date over there.

Variety have had contact with a number of groups, who say that releasing a Christmas-themed slasher on their most holy day is everything from “ill-founded” to “abominable.”`Now, there’s several problems here. One – it’s a bad film, which in all probability, few people were going to brave the cold on a national holiday to go and see, so why draw attention to it? Two – you can’t tell us that this movie is any more offensive to the spirit of Christmas than Deck The Halls, and we didn’t hear anyone complaining then.

Black Christmas is being handled by Dimension Films, which is headed up by Bob Weinstein (yup, Harvey’s Brother), who’s not exactly renowned for changing his mind at the best of times. The only surprise of the story therefore, came in the diplomacy of Dimension’s official response: “There is a long tradition of releasing horror movies during the holiday season as counter-programming top the regular yuletide fare. Black Christmas is a remake of a classic 1974 horror movie with a big cult following.”

Well somebody might have cussed or something and livened it up, jeez.
