Having generated enough interest before he even actually hit the screen to warrant talk of it, the Daredevil spin-off focusing on Jon Bernthal's The Punisher – or Frank Castle, as he's usually known – is now in the process of coming together. And it appears we have our first piece of new casting info, with TV Line reporting that Ben Barnes is joining the series.

What he'll be doing on The Punisher is not exactly known – and neither Marvel or Netflix have issued an official statement on his casting – but the current rumour has it that Barnes will be playing villain Bobby Saint, the son of corrupt businessman Howard Saint last seen on screen in the 2004 Punisher movie.

Hannibal veteran Steve Lightfoot is in charge of the new series and will be writing the first two episodes. And the new series – whenever it arrives – will expand on Frank's tortured, violent but darkly heroic world.

As for Barnes, he was last seen in Seventh Son, and has a role in the new Westworld TV series, due to arrive on screens next month.
