Marvel fans were left waiting for months before finding out the title of Avengers 4 – or, as we now call it Avengers: Endgame. The closing reel of Infinity War set up major stakes for the MCU’s next team-up movie, with the likes of Tony Stark, Steve Rogers and Black Widow left on Earth in the wake of Thanos’ snap which blinked half of all life in the universe out of existence. As Doctor Strange so succinctly put it during the fight on Titan, “we’re in the endgame now” – a comment that proved to be prescient for the follow-up’s title.
While co-director Joe Russo’s commented that the Avengers 4 title was definitely not spoken in Infinity War, it seems that was a classic mis-direct (read: outright lie). Marvel Studios mastermind Kevin Feige confirmed to MTV News on the Golden Globes 2019 red carpet that Endgame was set as the title way back in the beginning. “[The title] was in place before we started developing the movie, or just as we were developing it,” Feige confirmed, adding: “So Doctor Strange says that line because we knew it was the title.”
We’ll find out exactly what Thanos’ endgame involves in a matter of months – Avengers: Endgame is set to hit UK screens on 26 April 2019. Here’s everything we know about it so far – and in the meantime, we’ll see how Captain Marvel fits into the universe when she makes her big-screen debut on 8 March.
