Aqua Teen Hunger Force: The Movie

Okay, so Transformers might be the biggest news in terms of kids shows making it to the big screen this year. Well alright, it is. But in an extra shot of adaptationy goodness, Adult Swim (the late night, slightly ruder arm of The Cartoon Network in US cable TV that programs for ‘older kids’) have announced that their own super heroes, Aqua Teen Hunger Force are ready to hit the big screen – the movie has been picked up by a US distributor and is set for release there in March.

For the many who won’t be familiar with the cult cartoon, it focuses (loosely) on three living pieces of fast food – Frylock, Master Shake and Meatwad, who live in New Jersey and often have adventures involving their neighbour's pool. In the early days of the show they used to fight crime and teen hunger, but the twisted nature of the show meant that by its fourth season anything resembling an ongoing plot had gone completely out the window.

However, even the show’s creators realised that the step up from 11 minutes to 86 would require a storyline, and so the events of the movie will centre around the Hunger Force doing battle with an ‘immortal piece of exercise equipment threatening the balance of galactic peace.’

And in great news for Empire, there is confirmation that Bruce Campbell will provide a guest voice, alongside Rush drummer (and one of the world’s greatest musicians) Neil Peart. This last one led to the rumour that 48 minutes of the film’s running time would be Frylock belting out a drum solo, which has since been scuppered, at least on the internet.

The film currently has no UK distributor or release date. Dammit.
