Alan Rickman Joins Gambit

The cast for Michael Hoffman’s new take on the 1966 Michael Caine/Shirley MacLaine caper film Gambit just keeps getting better. How much better we hear you ask? Try better to the power of Alan Rickman and Tom Courtenay.

Gambit finds art curator and thief Harry Deane (Colin Firth) hatching an idea to con the richest man in England (Rickman). To help with his cunning plan, he ropes in the help of a Texan rodeo queen (Cameron Diaz). But, much like the original, the scheme doesn’t exactly work out the way Harry thinks it will. Courtenay, meanwhile, is playing a character called The Major, but there are no details on exactly who he is.

"We are thrilled to have added two world class actors to our already formidable cast. Alan and Sir Tom are the perfect additions to this classic comedic heist,” producers Adam Ripp and Rob Paris said in a statement.

Even though this is a remake, the fact that it’s being directed by the man behind The Last Station from a script by Joel and Ethan Coen makes us hopeful it’ll turn out well.
