It is doubtful that the combined brain power of Stephens Hawking and Fry could explain Cage’s presence in this odorous pile of medieval nonsense from Gone In Sixty Seconds director Sena. Cage and Perlman – that’s Ghost Rider and Hellboy, comic book fans – play a couple of former knights who, having become fashionably disillusioned with the murderous Crusades, become minders for a young woman (Little Dorrit’s Foy), suspected of being the witch responsible for spreading the Black Plague throughout Europe. With limp direction, lousy effects, and less drama than the average Dungeons & Dragons scenario, Season Of The Witch represents a new low in Oscar winner Cage’s once-stellar career. Only his accountant could possibly approve.
