Season 4 was the year when the show about nothing started to mean something. A timeslot change, following Cheers, helped, but there was a growing level of acerbic confidence that ramped up the high concepts, such as the one where Jerry and George pitch a show about nothing to NBC, or the episode where the gang give up wanking, without mentioning masturbation once. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. As good as US sitcoms get.
