Without the rose-tinted glasses of nostalgia, it’s often the case that kids’ TV shows from our youth are disappointing affairs. Not so with this French-Japanese series about a young Spanish lad heading off to the New World in search of the titular elusive treasure. The animation may be primitive, but the driving force of this show was and remains the compelling storyline. There are shadows in the primary colours that make for a gratifyingly deep tale whose epic scope is undiminished, even after all these years.
