Though they've primarily been supporting characters in the past – the house band in The Muppet Show and popping up in the movies for the odd appearance and musical number – Dr. Teeth And The Electric Mayhem are ready for their moment in the spotlight, thanks to a new Disney+ series called The Muppets Mayhem. This new series sees The Electric Mayhem on an epic musical journey to finally record their first studio album. With the help of driven young music executive Nora (Lily Singh), the old-school Muppet band comes face to face with the current day music scene as they try to finally go platinum.
The show is the brain spawn of Adam F. Goldberg, best known for creating US sitcom The Goldbergs based on his youth, Muppet veteran performer/writer Bill Barretta and actor/writer Jeff Yorkes.
Barretta will pull double duty, also playing Dr. Teeth, who is on vocals and keyboards, alongside Animal (Eric Jacobson) on drums, Floyd Pepper (Matt Vogel) on vocals and bass, Janice (David Rudman) on vocals and lead guitar, Zoot (Dave Goelz) on saxophone and Lips (Peter Linz) on trumpet.
And we're promised a host of cameos from the world of comedy, movies and music including Paula Abdul, Rachel Bloom, Morgan Freeman, deadmau5, Tommy Lee, Kevin Smith, Danny Trejo, "Weird Al" Yankovic and Ben Schwartz.
The Muppets Mayhem will launch with all episodes on 10 May on Disney+.
