While we've gotten used to seeing Matthew Macfadyen awkwardly jostle for power on Succession, he's got a healthy acting career still going this side of the pond. He and real-life wife Keeley Hawes are teaming up for new based-on-truth story Stonehouse.

Hailing from A Very English Scandal writer John Preston and directed by Jon S. Baird (Stan & Ollie). The three-part drama follows the life and times of disgraced Labour politician John Stonehouse, a high-flying minister of Prime Minister Harold Wilson’s government vanished from the beach of a large luxury hotel in Florida in Nov. 1974, leaving a neatly folded pile of clothes as he swam into the sea, intent on faking his own death.

Macfadyen plays Stonehouse, while Hawes is his wife Barbara. "What happened to John Stonehouse is the stuff of legend," says Macfadyen. "I’ve always been intrigued by what motivated him to fake his own death, and leave behind the family he loved and doted upon and a promising political career. John Preston’s script truly captures the man and his colourful life and I’m looking forward to taking on his character." And it's just the latest reality-based project for Macfadyen, who starred in Who Wants To Be A Millionaire cheating scandal drama Quiz back in 2020.

UK audiences will get to see this one via ITV, while those in the US and elsewhere are going to be watching on streaming service BritBox.
