People often seem to get in trouble travelling in the Australian outback – especially when they're not familiar with the place? But what if they're also suddenly struck with amnesia? That's the cranial conundrum faced by Jamie Dornan in new BBC thriller miniseries The Tourist, which has a teaser trailer online.

In the show, Dornan stars as The Man, who finds himself in the glowing red heart of the Australian outback, being pursued by a vast tank truck trying to drive him off the road. An epic cat and mouse chase unfolds and the man later wakes in hospital, hurt, but somehow alive. Except he has no idea who he is... With merciless figures from his past pursuing him, The Man’s search for answers propels him through the vast and unforgiving outback.

Danielle Macdonald, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Alex Dimitriades and Damon Herriman also star in the miniseries, which is from writers Harry and Jack Williams, with Chris Sweeney as director. It'll start screening on the iPlayer from 1 January, while US viewers will be able to watch it when it arrives on HBO Max.
