John Ajvide Lindqvist's 2004 vampire novel Let The Right One In has already been brought to screens twice, once by Tomas Alfredson in 2008 with an eponymous title, and then in remake fashion by Matt Reeves with Let Me In in 2010. TV is taking its own stab, as Away creator Andrew Hinderaker has Demián Bichir starring in a version for US cable network Showtime.
Homeland veteran Seith Mann will direct the pilot for the drama, with Bichir starring as a father, Mark whose life, along with that of his 12-year-old daughter, was changed forever 10 years earlier when she was turned into a vampire. Locked in at age 12, perhaps forever, Eleanor lives a closed-in life, able to go out only at night, while her father does his best to provide her with the minimal amount of human blood she needs to stay alive.
"Let The Right One In quickly establishes itself as a thrilling, high-stakes drama that asks the question: How far would you go to save your child from the monsters out there – would you risk becoming a monster yourself?" says Showtime's Amy Israel in a statement. “Demián Bichir is one of the world’s most dynamic and engrossing actors, and his charisma and vulnerability will surely bring Andrew Hinderaker’s exquisite script to life, guided by Seith Mann’s deft direction. We couldn’t be more excited about the potential of this show.”
Production company Tomorrow Studios has been trying to get this made as a series for a few years now, including false starts at basic cable channels A&E Network and TNT, but Hinderaker overhauled it for its current incarnation, which the producers are hoping will lead to a full series.
