Fans of Netflix's period rom-romp Bridgerton might have to do without first-season breakout Regé-Jean Page going forward, but there is at least brighter news in knowing that the show is not going anywhere. Netflix – via prolific gossip monger Lady Whistledown, has announced that the show, executive produced by Shonda Rhimes, will be back for not one but two more seasons beyond the second run that is now filming.

Bridgerton renewal S3-4

Set in the sexy, lavish, and competitive world of Regency London high society, Bridgerton follows eight close-knit siblings on their quest to find suitable love (or financial) matches. The show was an instant, huge hit on its arrival this past Christmas, and it's a no-brainer that Netflix would want to keep it around. Run by Rhimes, Betsy Beers and Chris Van Dusen, it adapts Julia Quinn's books.

"From the first time I read Julia Quinn’s delicious Bridgerton series, I knew these were stories that would captivate a viewing audience. But the evolution of this adaptation would not be a success without the many significant contributions of the entire Shondaland team. This two-season pickup is a strong vote of confidence in our work and I feel incredibly grateful to have partners as collaborative and creative as Netflix. Betsy and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to continue bringing the world of Bridgerton to a worldwide audience."

Netflix has yet to confirm when season 2 will land, but Christmas is surely the spot for the next run, which focuses on Jonathan Bailey's Anthony Bridgerton.
