No Time To Die

The ink has barely dried on Amazon’s takeover of MGM, and already their first streaming series connected to the James Bond franchise is underway. But, it might not be the kind of show you’re thinking of. The acquisition of the legendary Hollywood studio ostensibly gives Amazon license to k̶i̶l̶l̶ play with all kinds of toys, including Bond, Rocky, and plenty more – and while the 007 universe has all kinds of potential for character-based spin-offs (No Time To Die’s Paloma and Nomi, anyone?), first up we’re getting an unscripted, adventure-based competition reality show – one which has been in the works long prior to the MGM deal.

According to Variety, the green light has been given to a show titled 007’s Road To A Million – think Race Across The World, with a Bond twist. As the title implies, there’s a million pound prize pot on the line on a globe-trotting quest with physical and mental challenges. It’s currently unknown if that will involve intensive ski-chases, speedboating around the Millennium Dome, or jumping out of a plane with a Union Jack parachute. But, the series is officially a go with MGM, Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, and 72 Films – who are recruiting participants now. The application site states: “We’re looking for teams of two to take on this exciting mission, jet setting across the globe, facing challenges and using general knowledge for your chance to win the cash!”

Speaking to Variety, producer David Glover said: “I first had this idea over three years ago. Dan Grabiner and the UK Originals team took it to a whole other level. To be working with Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli and the Bond franchise is a privilege and a dream come true.”

You never know – what if this is the way you apply to be Daniel Craig’s successor and take over the 007 mantle? Now that would be a gamechanger.
