For a film that doesn't plan to fall within the boundaries of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and is featuring a character that has been ill-served by the big screen, Sony's aim to spin off Spider-character Venom has been attracting some notable talent. If he makes a deal, Woody Harrelson will be among them.

Venom, which Ruben Fleischer is directing, already boasts the likes of Tom Hardy (playing the journalist who becomes merged with the titular alien symbiont), Riz Ahmed, Michelle Williams and Jenny Slate. And while the plot is still largely a secret, we should expect to see the character embody more of an anti-hero version than a villain, though he's been both in the long history of Marvel comics and was an antagonist in Spider-Man 3.

Harrelson's character is likewise still under wraps, but according to Variety, he's close to appearing as a "henchman of sorts." Make of that what you will. It also means Harrelson would be reuniting with his Zombieland director.

Seen in this year's War For The Planet Of The Apes and The Glass Castle, Harrelson has Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri due to hit the UK on 12 January and will also be seen in Solo: A Star Wars Story, out here on 25 May.
