While we wait for Sam Raimi to return to directing movies (his last was 2013's Oz The Great And Powerful and it's still early days for The Kingkiller Chronicle, which he's attached to make), he's been busy continuing his association with TV. And Raimi has yet another series in the works, this time for online/app-based company NewTV, for which he'll produce a show called 50 States Of Fear.
Deadline could offer no more details than that intriguing title, though we're conjuring visions of an anthology horror series with Raimi directing the odd episode and shepherding others.
It'll apparently be a key component of the new streaming service – yes, another one – this time overseen by former DreamWorks Animation boss Jeffrey Katzenberg and ex eBay/Hewlett Packard CEO Meg Whitman. The aim is to launch a new service along the lines of Hulu, with different pay schemes depending on whether you're willing to put up with ads. The service is designed to offer "short form" programming, so we'll have to see what that entails for Raimi's new show.
As a film producer, Raimi will be helping to guide the likes of the next Grudge reboot and Alexandre Aja's Crawl, both due next year.
