Having already become a producer on films and turned her hand to directing shorts and music videos, Olivia Wilde is taking the director's chair for a movie at last, aiming to make Booksmart. The new comedy will star Kaitlyn Dever and Lady Bird breakout Beanie Feldstein.

Booksmart, which originated with writers Emily Halpern and Sarah Haskins and has since seen work from both Susanna Fogel and Katie Silberman, follows two academic superstars/best friends who start to realise that maybe they spent a little too much time studying and not quite enough living. So, deciding that they can't fall short of their peers in anything, they try to cram four years of fun into one night.

With backing from Annapurna and Gloria Sanchez (AKA the female-focused production spin-off of Gary Sanchez Productions), the film should be shooting soon.

Dever has worked on Lynn Shelton's Outside In and will be seen in Beautiful Boy. Booksmart will represent Feldstein's next job.
