We've been hearing about Todd Phillips' planned stand-alone origin story for The Joker for a while now. It has a star in Joaquin Phoenix and now we know both when it'll be out and what it'll be called. In that order: October 2019 and, simply, Joker.

With Comic-Con now in full swing, it feels like the right time to release information about this film, which admittedly is a divisive one given the wildly different opinions on the future of the DCEU. This movie exists outside of the sprawling continuity, and will have its own tone and feel, a moody, street-level tale. Phillips has described it as "an exploration of a man disregarded by society that is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale."

The director wrote the script with The Fighter's Scott Silver and will kick off shooting in September, with a 4 October release date announced for the States. Just don't expect it to be the only Joker movie in the works...
