Fresh from the success of Logan, director James Mangold is closing in on a potential future project. He's in talks with 20th Century Fox to develop and direct an adaptation of The Cartel writer Don Winslow's new novel The Force.
Winslow's latest book doesn't hit stores until June, but Ridley Scott grabbed the rights to it last September before the title of the tome had even been announced. The Force tells the story of a corrupt detective in the NYPD's most elite unite. The main character is Sergeant Denny Malone, who must choose between his partners, his family and his life when he has to stop racial tension boiling over in the city. No easy job when he's already bought and paid for by both Harlem drug gangs and the mob, and is trying to evade the federal investigators looking to take him down.
Scott's company Scott Free will produce alongside Shane Salerno and Michael Schaefer and the hunt is on for a writer to work with Mangold on adapting the book.
