They're both veterans of different cinematic military experiences, but now Chris Hemsworth and Michael Shannon are teaming up as the chosen leads for a new based-on-truth story of US Special Forces team called Horse Soldiers.
Writers Peter Craig and Ted Tally have crafted the current draft, adapting Doug Stanton's 2010 book. It follows the team sent to a dangerous, mountainous region of Afghanistan in the weeks following 9/11. They were there to join forces with a Northern Alliance warlord to battle the Taliban. Danish filmmaker Nicolai Fuglsig is in the director's chair.
Jerry Bruckheimer has been trying to get this one made since he picked up the rights alongside Disney in 2009 before the book even hit shelves. “I am so happy that we’re finally getting this great project off the ground with wonderful leading actors, Chris Hemsworth and Michael Shannon,” said Bruckheimer in a statement carried by Deadline. “It’s also great to be partnered with Molly Smith, Trent Luckinbill and Thad Luckinbill of Black Label Media, which is such a dynamic and exciting production company.”
Hemsworth will be back on our screens as Marvel's long-locked hero in Thor: Ragnarok, which is out here on 27 October next year. Shannon has Nocturnal Animals out 4 November and Loving due on 3 February next year.
