After running away with most of the Lady Bird scenes she appeared in, Beanie Feldstein has scored a solid lead role of her own, preapring to star in How To Build A Girl.

Adapted by writer and presenter Caitlin Moran from her 2014 book, the film will find Feldstein as Johanna Morrigan in the 1990-set coming-of-age story. Morrigan is 16, smart, opinionated and overweight. Hormones raging, she is desperate to get out of her home town and make a name for herself – which she does, reinventing herself as Dolly Wilde, a bad-ass music critic. Gaining notoriety as an enfant terrible, she has finally figured out how to build a girl – but is this the girl she wanted to build?

Coky Giedroyc, who has directed episodes of shows such as The Hour and Penny Dreadful, will start the cameras rolling this July in the UK. Feldstein is currently at work on Olivia Wilde's indie comedy Booksmart.
