Brie Larson did not join her Marvel teammates in making an appearance at this year's Comic-Con, but the studio did have something to say about Captain Marvel. We now know the time period and the big villains for the movie.

With Kevin Feige on stage at the San Diego event, he not only confirmed that Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury would play a considerable part, he also dropped the knowledge that he would do it with one more than his usual eye count. Yes, Captain Marvel takes place when Fury had both his eyes, years before the launch of what we've come to know as the MCU's timeline, set in 1991 and featuring the first appearance of intergalactic troublemakers the Skrulls.

The shape-shifting alien enemies present both an opportunity and a potential trickiness for stories going forward, as introducing them so far before everyone else means that heroes we've come to know could turn out to be nasty creatures in disguise. We'll see if Marvel chooses to go that way.

Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck are preparing the make the movie, which will hit UK screens on 8 March, 2019. We can expect to see a lot more from the film at next year's Con.
