With Felicity Jones in place as US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg in On The Basis Of Sex, director Mimi Leder has locked in a co-star for her: Armie Hammer.

Ginsburg is a compelling subject for a biopic, a woman who has spent her career championing women’s rights and smashed the glass ceiling more than once. She co-founded the first law journal on the subject of gender equality, became the first woman professor tenured at Columbia university. In 1993, Bill Clinton nominated her to the Supreme Court, making her the first female Jewish Justice.

Daniel Stiepleman, who happens to be Ginsburg's nephew, wrote the script for the film, which tracks her career. Hammer will be playing Marty Ginsburg, her husband, who was no pygmy in the legal department either, and they married in 1954. The duo teamed to bring the first landmark gender discrimination case before the Supreme Court and he was a wholehearted supporter of her career while pursuing his own. The film will be out next year, to tie in with Ginsburg's 25th year on the Supreme Court.

Hammer will next be seen in Call Me By Your Name, due on 27 October.
