There's yet another wrinkle in the long-running saga of the latest version of the Scarface story. After being in talks to direct, then dropping out due to scheduling issues, Antoine Fuqua has swung back around to the idea of making the movie.
According to Deadline, the director, who is currently finishing The Equalizer 2, has once again struck up talks with Universal Pictures about the job. The movie, which updates the immigrant rags-to-crime-lord-riches story to present-day LA, has been in development for a few years now. After Fuqua, David Ayer considered the gig, and did some work on the script. And while Diego Luna was attached to play the lead around the same time, he may not end up starring, as the schedule for making the movie will shift.
Though the movie had been aiming to arrive in August this year, it's now floating without a release date as the elements try to come together, with the script having gone through Ayer, Jonathan Herman and the Coen brothers, to name just a few.
No deal is in place for Fuqua yet, though he has the aforementioned Equalizer sequel heading to our screens on 17 August.
