Much as happened with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, stand-alone pic Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is doing the release date hop, with the new movie now opening a day earlier in the UK.

The shift – Lucasfilm and Disney haven't directly said why the change – brings the UK into the same realm as places such as Austria, Brazil and Colombia, though some European countries such as Belgium and Sweden will be headed to the galaxy far, far away even earlier, on 14 December. There's a Brexit joke to be made here, but we shall sidestep it.

The US and other countries such as Canada and Spain will have to wait until the originally scheduled 16 December, while China won't see the film until January.

Rogue One, which features Gareth Edwards in the director's chair and the likes of Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Forest Whitaker, Donnie Yen and Alan Tudyk in the cast, will be with us on 15 December.
