Long before Murray, Reitman and Ramis teamed up for Ghostbusters in 1984, they scored big with this often hilarious spoof of military life. Murray is cast as John Winger, a slob who, on a whim, decides to sign up and help Uncle Sam, while Ramis is the wimpy friend Russel Zinsky coerced into entering the army with him. A surprise success at the time, this fantastic stepping stone for the cast introduced Saturday Night Live star Murray and his don’t-give-a-damn attitude to the big screen. Watch out also for Sean Young in a small role as a female MP.

Murray's initial transition from the small screen is a classic.
