An impressive throwback to the halcyon days of Ozploitation. A big city cop (Ryan Kwanten) takes a posting in the outback for peace and quiet — and shows up for work in Red Hill on the day Jimmy Conway (Tommy Lewis), a scarred aborigine with a grudge and near-supernatural wilderness skills, escapes from jail and comes to town for payback. Kwanten (True Blood) suffers as the reluctant, sensitive soul among a posse of gun-toting Ockers who don’t think their ancestors stole this land “so wankers could drink fuckin’ Pinot”. Lewis, essentially reprising his role from breakthrough Australian movie The Chant Of Jimmie Blacksmith, is a powerful presence as a threat who could be an avenging angel or psycho spree-killer. There’s a memorable panther, and it even has boomerang murders
