This is the sort of family film they rarely make anymore, a gentle small-town tale of wounded, decent souls and the wide-eyed child who offers salvation. That moppet is the titular Timothy Green, who magically appears to childless Jim (Joel Edgerton) and Cindy (Jennifer Garner). That’s a genuinely touching hook, but it’s largely sidelined in a series of loose-y goose-y scenes where Timothy mends the broken hearts of a stellar supporting cast. While it’s hard not to like anything this wholesome, it does become overly cutesy despite the strong performances.

Timothy (Adams) is no ordinary ten year-old boy. For one thing, he has leaves growing out of his socks; for another he has no fixed abode. Luckily, he stumbles upon a couple yearning for a child of their own (Edgerton and Garner) who welcome him into their lives with fantastical results.
