Obsession

Oh dear! An early entry into Brian De Palma's cycle of Hitchcock re-workings/rip-offs sees writer Paul Schrader making a mess of Vertigo. A businessman loses his wife and child to a bungled kidnapping, only to suffer deja vu years later.

Everything is shot through with '70s porn soft-focus and wobbly dream sequences, and set to a Bernard Herrmann score that borders on poor pastiche - which is, under the circumstances, quite fitting.

The only obsession on display here is De Palma's - with Hitchcock. It's an unhealthy one too which results in an out of focus rip-off.
