Ken Russell’s attempt to make a Hammer Film is distinguished by plodding obviousness, a terrible script, generally embarrassing performances from nice girls like Sammi Davis and Catherine Oxenburg, and Amanda Donohoe being extraordinarily perverse as the vampire snakelady who gets her jollies drowning boy scouts in the jacuzzi and modelling reptile fetish outfits. She gets at least a star more than the rest of the picture, however, which resembles a parade of spotted dick jokes interspersed with the sort of hammy dialogue only Peter Cushing can deliver properly tumbling here from the mouths of lesser players such as Hugh Grant and Peter Capaldi. One neat mongoose-in-the-sporran trick, though

An embarrassing mish-mash of comedy and horror which fits neither criteria.
