This rom-com vehicle for Queen Latifah is a Cinderella/Ugly Ducking hybrid that sees her as a down-to-earth, sports-fan physiotherapist who gets her perfect job manipulating the muscles of an injured basketball star (Common). Of course she falls in love, but alas, he’s engaged to her beautiful but shallow bud (Precious’ Paula Patton). Absolutely nothing that occurs at any point comes as a surprise, but Moroccan Sanaa Hamri, a veteran of Desperate Housewives and Brothers & Sisters, puts a nice polish on proceedings, even saddled with self-conscious cameos by a host of real NBA players and coaches. Pam Grier and Phylicia Rashad are fun as the meddling mothers, Common is pleasing, and Latifah is a warm, very likable heroine.

Likeable turns from Queen Latifah, Common and Pam Grier elevate the fairly rote material - no big surprises here - into a fun, basketball-based spin on the romantic-comedy.
