Neglected Penelope Anne Miller finds a thrown-away murder weapon and, unable to get her cop husband to pay attention, confesses to the killing of a gangland sleaze, whereupon she is made over from dowdy librarian into glamorous moll and is pursued by police, lawyers, crooks and eccentric supporting characters.
Miller is a winning heroine, even if a reunion with her frankly dreary love interest is sadly inevitable, and there are nice turns from Cathy Moriarty as a snarling but lovable hooker and William Forsythe as a Cajun godfather. Too busy to be really funny and a bit too overpopulated to have much effect, this is still watchable.
