A documentary about migrant workers which intercuts a police investigation into the identity of a corpse found in the Arizona desert — with ‘Dayani Cristal’ tattooed on his chest — with a more fanciful strand in which actor/activist Gael García Bernal rides along with south-of-the-border illegals on their own perilous journey to cross the border into the United States. The forensic business, which concentrates on a small aspect of the issue in such a way that the big picture takes shape, works better than the celeb-hobo business, which might not have been the best way to tell the stories of the undocumented masses.
