The Case Against 8 Review

Case Against 8, The
From conference room to courtroom, this film documents the battle to overturn California's Proposition 8. The legislation banned gay marriage in 2008, a piece of lawmaking that rallied unlikely allies to the cause - including right-wing attorney Theodore Olson.

Case Against 8, The

Lacking intellectual rigour and bereft of adversarial debate, this is a well-meaning but convolutedly superficial record of the legal struggle to overturn California’s opposition to same-sex marriage. The legal aspects are fascinating, but the human-interest storylines are pure schmaltz.

As passionate and wide-ranging as you'd hope, but disappointingly mistrusting of its audience's interest in the finer points of the case.
