We Are The Best!

With this wonderful coming-of-age story Lukas Moodysson reaffirms the promise of his first two films, Show Me Love and Together, while washing away the sour taste of his more downbeat recent offerings. Set in 1982 Stockholm, it finds 13 year-old best friends Bobo (Mira Barkhammar) and Klara (Mira Grosin) deciding to prove the punk spirit is still alive by recruiting guitar virtuoso classmate Hedvig (Liv LeMoyne) to their three-piece band. The music is predictably terrible, but also irrelevant; this lovely film is a study of friendship in more innocent times, and its indomitable teen spirit is simply irresistible.

A very welcome return from Moodysson. The music is Wyld Stallions-grade, but the charm and spirit of the three girls will have you moshing in your seat.
