Original Title:

That Awkward Moment

Three male friends make a pact to stay single in this New York-set rom-com. You guessed it: in walks the girl of our hero’s dreams. Thankfully, said hero is Efron, who puts in an appealing performance as the conflicted player who shares plenty of chemistry with sparky love interest Poots. Mates Teller and Jordan offer a few laddish laughs while repeatedly punching above their dating weight. It’s predictable and troubled by continuity errors, but as undemanding romantic comedies go, it’s a pleasant enough watch with a heartfelt script from debut writer-director Tom Gormican.

With two stars in the ascendant in Jordan and Teller and another, Efron, already commanding an army's worth of adulation, this a cast that should prove catnip for its target demographic. The film itself offers cheery, lightweight fun without taking itself too seriously.
