Zooey Deschanel Joins Your Highness

Zooey Deschanel has joined the cast of David Gordon Green and Danny McBride’s medieval comedy, Your Highness.

Deschanel will play Belladonna, the virginal wife of a noble knight (James Franco) who accompanies his arrogant doofus of a brother (McBride) on a quest to save their father’s kingdom. Along the way, they meet, and McBride falls for, a warrior princess played by Natalie Portman… and we’re only guessing, mind you, but we wouldn’t be surprised if Belladonna turns out to be less than virginal.

We’ve always had a soft spot for Deschanel, who’s the right side of kooky and charming, and she’s a further good addition to a movie that we’ve got high hopes for. Not least because McBride also co-wrote the script with his Eastbound & Down writing partner, Ben Best, and if they can bring that show’s offbeat, diffident, sneering attitude to this, this could potentially be brilliant.

Scott Stuber is producing the Universal movie, which starts shooting this month in Norn Iron (presumably after the 12th…).
