After Amazon's unsuccessful attempt to turn it into a TV show and director Ruben Fleischer's disappointing follow-ups, 30 Minutes Or Less and Gangster Squad, it makes sense that Sony are nutting up once more. That's right, hold on to all your remaining Twinkies, because **Zombieland 2 **is a-coming.

With Fleischer definitely back on board, you'd hope the writers of the 2009 zom-comedy would be too, but Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have moved on to other things: they're making Deadpool, the Watch Dogs game adaptation and, um, G.I. Joe Retaliation. Taking their place for the zee-quel is David Callaham, hot off doing a rewrite for Ant-Man as well as penning Godzilla.

Zombieland's worldwide gross came in at $102 million (off a $23.6 million budget), and until World War Z it was the highest grossing zombie flim ever released in America. Sony and Fleischer will be hoping for something similarly successful second time around, though much of that will depend on whether they can get back the key cast members.

If Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, Jesse Eisenberg and Abigail Breslin could all be persuaded to pick up a bloody chainsaw and head back into the frey, this could be something special, because the ending of the first film left things wide open after setting up a fun and only-slightly-scary world. Trying to top that cameo may the trickest trick of the lot, mind...

Still very much in the planning stages, there is no official release date earmarked for Zombieland 2.
