Since it’s October, you might be revisiting the screen exploits of David Arquette at the moment in Wes Craven’s beloved Scream movies, watching him play hapless detective Dewey. And while the actor is currently shooting the upcoming Scream 5, the more recent years of Arquette’s career have seen him return to a different kind of performing: professional wrestling. You see, back in 2000, Arquette became a figure on the now-defunct WCW World Championship Wrestling, and – in a hugely controversial move – managed to bag the WCW World Champion belt in what became seen as a shark-jumping moment for WCW. It left Arquette a vilified figure in the wrestling world, drawing ire from fans and pros alike.

But 18 years later, he announced his return to the ring – and his experiences in trying to reshape his wrestling legacy are charted in SXSW-favourite documentary You Cannot Kill David Arquette. It looks like a wild and raucous ride, and it’s coming to UK screens soon, with a cinema release on 19 November and a VOD release four days later on the 23rd. And here’s the official synopsis for the film, which is directed by David Darg and Price James: “A wildly entertaining and heart-warming story of redemption that follows David Arquette’s return to wrestling. Branded as the most hated man in wrestling after winning a highly controversial WCW World Heavyweight Championship in 2000, actor David Arquette attempts a rocky return to the sport that stalled his promising Hollywood career. Dangerously determined to redeem his reputation and reclaim his self-respect, Arquette will stop at nothing to earn his place in professional wrestling.”

And with Scream 5 coming in January 2022 – this time directed by Ready Or Not filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett – we’ll be seeing Arquette out of the spandex and back in his cop uniform in the not-too-distant future.
