The X-Files Season 10

When the door to Mulder's office was jimmied open and the X-Files filing cabinet once more raided at the end of 2015 and start of 2016 for the six-episode Season 10, the response was decidedly mixed from both critics and audiences. Still, Fox TV has enough faith that people still want to believe and began talks with stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson to return for yet more. A new run of 10 episodes will be with us later in 2017.

Chris Carter, the show's creator, is once again back to run the new series, though no details were given on how the stories will be divided this time around. We're frankly hopeful that Darin Morgan){href='%5Bhttp://%5D(' } can be persuaded to write more, as his Mulder And Scully Meet The Were-Monster was the hands-down highlight of Season 10. And maybe lay off the overblown mythology stuff? Or at least give it more room to breathe this time – the expanded episode count should help.

"Iconic characters, rich storytelling, bold creators – these are the hallmarks of great TV shows. And they are some of the reasons why The X-Files has had such a profound impact on millions of fans worldwide," says Fox Broadcasting Company president in a statement. "Chris’ creativity, along with the brilliant work of David and Gillian, continue to propel this pop culture phenomenon, and we can’t wait to see what fresh mysteries Mulder and Scully uncover in this next chapter of The X-Files."

The new episodes will start shooting in the summer for release at the end of 2017 and into 2018. If you need more authorised X-Files fodder, an audio book called Cold Cases featuring Duchovny and Anderson and based on Joe Harris' Season 10 graphic novels aiming to fill in the time between 2008's I Want To Believe and the last season, will be out in July.
