Stan Lee's Nick Ratchet has, er, ratcheted up a notch or two with writers Douglas Cook and David Weisberg signing on to pen the script.
The comic-book legend's story is a mystery-thriller about a meek police officer transformed Jekyll and Hyde-style into Nick Ratchet, a tough avatar cop who emerges from a video game to assume control of his creator. Cook and Weisberg co-scripted The Rock so should know a thing or two about mild-mannered law enforcers turning seriously alpha.
As reported last month, Nick Ratchet is one of three projects Lee's set up with Disney via his POW! Entertainment imprint. Like Nick Ratchet, the others, **Blaze **and Tigress, are based on characters he hints may see the light of day on the page as well as the screen: "You either have a great comic-book and it becomes a great movie, or you have a great movie that becomes a great comic-book," Lee said. "These things have a natural progression."
Richard LaGravenese (P.S. I Love You) is attached to direct, with Larry Jacobson and ex-NYPD officer Sonny Grosso in talks to produce.
