We knew we'd keep seeing some movement in big movies, especially with the world cinema situation still uncertain thanks to the pandemic. Warner Bros., though, has now decided to shift Wonder Woman 1984 to December not because of the Coronavirus-impacted results of Tenet but because it thinks the Christmas season can support big movies.
Specifically, its own Dune and the new Wonder Woman movie. While Dune is currently still sitting on its 18 December release date, Wonder Woman 1984 will now arrive on 25 December. Warners has cited the success of Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle thrived despite competition from Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker.
"First and foremost let me say how much Gal and I love all our devoted Wonder Woman fans around the world, and your excitement for WW84 couldn’t make us happier or more eager for you to see the movie," says Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins in a statement. "Because I know how important it is to bring this movie to you on a big screen when all of us can share the experience together, I’m hopeful you won’t mind waiting just a little bit longer. With the new date on Christmas Day, we can’t wait to spend the holidays with you!"
Dune will have just one week to debut in cinemas before Diana Prince arrives, though with fewer films on release, there's more chance for both movies to find success.
