A few days ago, Warner Bros. made the difficult decision to release Wonder Woman 1984 on streaming service HBO Max in the United States, along with a schedule for whatever cinemas are open in the country on Christmas Day. But what of the UK? While a December release date was talked about, the studio has now confirmed that the movie will be out here on 16 December.

Of course, that will be dependent on cinemas being open in England and elsewhere, with different lockdowns and tiers creating issues for cinema chains. There still may have to be some facility to digitally rent the movie if enough big screens aren't available, but for now the company is focused on cinemas.

And the film now also has a worldwide release schedule, with several companies getting it before that US launch, partly to stem the tide of piracy.

Wonder Woman 1984 finds Gal Gadot's warrior hero dealing with the world of the 1980s, and new threats from the likes of Max Lord (Pedro Pascal) and Cheetah (Kristen Wiig). She'll also confront the surprising return of Chris Pine's Steve Trevor.
