Will Smith and Tom Hanks

Will Smith has not exactly had the best time of it lately. While Suicide Squad ultimately proved to be a box office, if hardly critical, success, Collateral Beauty was lambasted and sank. So you understand while he might be tempted to join forces with Disney and start talks for a role in Tim Burton's live-action Dumbo movie, which also has Tom Hanks considering playing a villain.

The Mouse House is pushing forward on this one, which has a script by Ehren Kruger and Burton aboard to oversee a new take on the story of the lovable, big-eared, flying young elephant. Quite what role Smith might take is anyone's guess at this point (cue lots of jokes about his own ear-based blessings), but according to Deadline, any commitment on his part would have to overcome some scheduling hurdles, since Smith is also figuring out the timing on Bad Boys For Life, with Joe Carnahan ready to re-team him with Martin Lawrence for more crazy cop action.

Hanks, meanwhile, is considering the movie, but also has a potential World War II movie called The Grey Hound in the works.

So we'll wait and see if this one comes to pass, though given Disney's ability to attract big names, we wouldn't be shocked to learn that a deal has been made. As for Smith's next actual job, he's been reuniting with Squad director David Ayer on fantasy cop thriller Bright, which is hitting Netflix this year.
