Having found comedy in NASCAR with Talladega Nights back in 2006 and ice skating in 2007's Blades Of Glory, Will Ferrell is dipping back into the sporting world for a new film. This time, though, he's targeting eSports.

The spectator sport of competitive game playing has risen up to become a massive industry that fills arenas here, in the States and across Asia. The film, which doesn't yet have a confirmed title, will have a script from Michael Kvamme and Jordan Dunn, will see Ferrell as a member of a professional eSports team, an older anomaly in the sport given that many players retire in their 20s.

Legendary Entertainment is backing the film, and the hunt is on for a director. To give it that eSports credibility kick, two of the better known teams in the sport, Evil Geniuses and Fnatic, are being offered the chance to take part in the movie.

This one is still at an early stage, but Ferrell will be back on screens in James Franco's Zeroville and has gambling comedy The House due here on 30 June.
